What Is a Serial Number QR Code Hologram Sticker?
A serial number QR code hologram sticker puts two independent identifiers on a single tamper-evident hologram: a unique sequential number printed on every unit, and a QR code that points to that same unit’s record. The visual hologram deters casual copying; the serial-plus-QR pair lets you verify any individual sticker against your own records instead of by eye. This is the practical difference from a plain holographic sticker, which carries the same artwork on every unit and cannot tell one piece from another.
Why Combine a Serial Number and a QR Code on One Sticker?
One identifier alone leaves a gap. A serial number is human-readable but slow to check at scale; a QR code is fast to scan but, by itself, only proves the code was printed — not that this specific item is the genuine one. Pairing them on the same sticker closes that gap:
- Cross-check: the QR resolves to the exact serial it was printed with, so a sticker whose QR and printed number disagree is caught immediately.
- Two audiences: your warehouse reads the number; your customer or field technician scans the code. Both reach the same unit record.
- One tamper event: a single destructible hologram means any attempt to move the sticker destroys both identifiers at once.
How Verification Works
- Each unit is printed with a consecutive code (for example SN-000001, SN-000002) and a QR encoding that unit’s payload.
- Scanning the QR, or reading the serial, looks the value up in your issued list.
- A valid serial that has been scanned an unusual number of times, or a serial outside your issued range, flags a likely counterfeit.
The lookup target is set when the job is configured — it can point to your own system or to a hosted page we provide.
Anti-Cloning: Why the Backend Matters
The QR and serial are not “uncopyable” — a real attack copies one valid sticker and applies it to many fakes. What stops that is the logic behind the code: each code is recorded once at issue, the first scan is captured, repeat scans raise an alert, and abnormal scan locations or volumes are flagged. This backend behaviour is the part a generic supplier usually omits, and it is where the serial-plus-QR design earns its keep.
